About the Website
What's with the name?
I was once deeply fascinated by Ancient Rome's legendary brilliance in innovations and audacity in conquests. At the heart of Rome's most glorious years was Octavius Thurinus...better known as Augustus Caesar, the first Emperor of Rome. I admired this man's shrewdness, a trait that garnered him respect in his time and immortality in history... a trait I wished I had to compliment my ambitiousness. Since Augustus was a common handle during the heydays of ICQ, I took his lesser known cognomen "Thurinus" to distinguish myself from the rest. The name has stuck with me ever since.
The website's purpose, then?
This website, as it's so painfully obvious, is my portfolio, where I showcase my creative and technical work to complement a resume.
The Cogs and Wheels of Version 5.
Although I experimented with a fully database-driven content management system in version 4, I felt such an arrangement was overkill, since most of the pages were rarely updated. In version 5, only the galleries and updates are database-driven, all other pages simply include common code snippets for frequently used widgets. The site is built using XHTML 1.1 and CSS for the frontend, PHP and mySQL for the backend.
